HYDRA TODAY

Hydra island is located in the Saronic Gulf, near the east coast of Peloponnese, just half an hour away from the country's largest port, Piraeus by speedboat (42 nautical miles).

The town is situated in the center of the island in a sheltered bay, and is built on the rocky slope, around the harbor, creating a unique harmony between architecture and environment.

The visitor who approaches the island for the first time, get impressed from the sight of the tall and stately mansions, which dominate the city's harbor.

Right and left from the entrance of the port, there are the Parapets with the Canons, which protected the town. Today, the port of Hydra is filled with little and big yachts, boats and cruisers.

You can walk to the waterfront, where beats the heart of the city, browse the tourist shops located on the beach, admire the old mansions and visit the museums of Hydra. Also you can ascend the narrow picturesque streets and find yourself in the oldest district of the city, the medieval fortress settlement of Kiafas and from there to enjoy the views as far as the Peloponnese.

Main characteristic of Hydra is that there are no wheeled vehicles and the transportation of people is being made only by donkeys, a thing that makes the Island even more picturesque.

For swimming inside the town walls, you can go to the rocky beach of Spilia, to Idroneta, and to Avlaki, Kamini and cosmopolitan Mandraki.

The connection of the town with the other beautiful beaches, Vlychos, Agios Nikolas, Bisti ... is being done only by the sea, with boats or sea taxis.

Hydra is famous for the calm life is offers to the visitors in the day, but also for the intense, cosmopolitan night life.

Hydra, with its continuous offering to tourism and to the culture of our country, remains
the adornment of the Saronic Gulf and one of the most important resorts that Greece has to offer.
